LAAAA NAMES NEW PRESIDENT
Board Member Joe Hartnett Honored with Appointment
LOS ANGELES, July 11, 2002 The Los Angeles Advertising Agencies
Association (LAAAA) announced today that board member Joe Hartnett
has been unanimously voted to the post of President.
An active member of LAAAA since 1988 and current chief integrated
marketing officer of The Phelps Group, Hartnett joined the LAAAA
board in 1998. He succeeds Rick Carpenter, who served as LAAAA president
since 2000.
Im pleased to be passing the presidential reigns to
Joe Hartnett, said Carpenter. As a devoted board member,
he was directly responsible for Career Day and the 2002 Spring Conference.
His 20 years of advertising leadership skills and expertise will
help further LAAAAs objectives and goals.
In addition to his dedication to LAAAA, Hartnett is recognized worldwide
for his dynamic teachings on Integrated Marketing Communications
(IMC). Hartnett is hailed for his ability to instruct colleagues
and clients on how to put this methodology into practice to successfully
deliver a consistent brand message at all points of customer contact.
Hartnett is also a frequent speaker at conferences and campuses
around the world, and has organized and led IMC seminars for current
clients, including the City of Hope, Pepperdine University and Dunn-Edwards.

Through his IMC practices, Hartnett has helped build a strong travel
and tourism client base for The Phelps Group. He currently serves
as team leader on Crystal Cruises, the worlds leading luxury
cruise line, and as strategic advisor to the agencys Fairmont
Hotels & Resorts, Air Tahiti Nui, Petco and Bushnell teams.
In addition to the LAAAA, Hartnett serves on the Minority Advertising
Training Board of Directors, the Santa Monica College Advisory Board
and the American Cancer Society.
Alongside Hartnett, the following LAAAA board members were also
elected as officiates: as Vice President, Bruce Silverman of Initiative
Partners and Coleen Kelly of Deutsch LA; as Secretary, Caryn Wiley
of Saatchi & Saatchi LA; and as Treasurer, Rochelle Newman of
Enlace Communications.
