Top-down,
command-and-control, pyramid-type organizational structures don't
work in today's business environment. CEO Joe Phelps believes this
so strongly that's he's written a book entitled Pyramids
Are Tombs™. As an agency, we are convinced
that the most effective way to help our clients achieve their specific
marketing communications goals is with self-directed, client-based
teams.
Organizing around our clients in this way brings the best resources
of the agency to each account, fostering good communications and
team dynamics. It allows us to work without the department turf
wars so prevalent in companies organized by function. It's always
clear who we work for at The Phelps Group. Everyone reports to a
client team. The team reports directly to the client.
Specialists
The concept of integrated marketing and the self-managed team philosophy
would be dead without the specialists. A specialist is an expert
within a specific marketing discipline who brings focused expertise
to the team.
Many of our specialists learned their trade at large Madison Avenue-type
advertising, PR and promotions agencies — environments where
they became disenchanted with the slow-moving, politically oriented,
bureaucratic structure. Working together, specialists reinforce
our pledge of "All communications. One Voice.™"
Coaches
Coaches are experienced integrated marketing communications specialists who, within their particular
area of marketing expertise, train, mentor and advise associates.
Sometimes they're integral members of a team. Other times, they're
called in on an "as needed" basis for consultation or
counsel.
We are self managed teams delivering Integrated Marketing Communications in a full feedback environment
in the spirit of our mission to achieve our vision.
